Essential Details You Need to Know About Windows 12
Windows 11 was released on 5th October 2021, more than six years after Windows 10 release. According to recent reports, Microsoft plans to switch to a new Microsoft update cycle. Therefore, there is a possibility that Microsoft will start releasing a new Windows version every three years. Continue reading to learn more about Windows 12 release date, hardware requirements, and more.
Windows 12 Release Date
Before Windows 10, Microsoft used to release a new OS version after three years. Microsoft released Windows Vista in 2006, Windows 7 in 2009, Windows 8 in 2015, and Windows 10 (the most popular version) in 2015. However, they started releasing major annual updates to add new features to Windows 10. If they have a new Windows development roadmap, a three-year release cycle, then Windows 12 release date is around 2024, most likely in the Fall, just like Windows 11.
Will Windows 12 be a Free Upgrade?
Microsoft has been offering Windows updates for free to their users for many years. Therefore, there is a high possibility that Windows 12 will be a free upgrade. However, without a Windows license, you must buy Microsoft’s official Windows 12 copy. Also, just like in the previous Windows versions, each version has specific hardware requirements.
Will Users be Forced to Upgrade to Windows 12?
Users might not be forced to upgrade to Windows 10. Over the years, Microsoft has not forced users to upgrade to the newer version. In fact, Windows 10 users don’t need to update to Windows 11. While this approach might continue, users are highly recommended to upgrade to newer Windows versions to improve their user experience, for instance, improved speeds and additional features.
Hardware Requirements
There is a high possibility that if your PC can run Windows 11, it can support Windows 12 too. It is nearly impossible for Microsoft to add more stringent policies because they would cut off many users. Expect Windows 12 to require at least the following:
- Memory: 4 GB RAM (at least)
- Storage: 64 GB (at least)
- Processor: 1 GHz or more with two or more cores compatible with a 64-bit processor
- Display: 720p
Although Microsoft has not announced releasing a new Windows version (Windows 12), it is prudent to be informed. With time, we will know if a Windows 12 version exists, its release date, and expected new features.
